Hands on Learning

At Beaufort Secondary College we realise that some students learn better when they’re up and about doing things. To assist in supporting these students on their learning journey, we offer an innovative Hands on Learning program from Year 7 to Year 10.

The program, established over 25 years ago at Frankston High School by Russell Kerr OAM, and in operation at the College since 2019, offers students the opportunity to build on their wellbeing, engagement and attendance. By creating a place where they feel they belong, students work collaboratively with like minded individuals to complete meaningful tasks within the school and community.

Running for one full day per week, the structured program uses focus plans that are designed to build capacity and empower students. Partaking in a variety of activities and tasks throughout the year, students develop new capabilities, helping to build their self-esteem and social skills. The program equips students with lifelong tools, such as teamwork and leadership and encourages participants to maintain a good attendance record and work ethic, while displaying the school values.
